Understanding how to get
your medicine
Now that you have been prescribed your medicine, let’s look at how you’ll receive it.
Your prescriber will send your prescription to a Specialty Pharmacy.
A Specialty Pharmacy is different from your local retail pharmacy.
- The Pharmacy coordinates the delivery of medicine to your home
- You can ask your prescriber’s office which Pharmacy they have sent your prescription to
Details about the coverage, cost, and potential financial assistance are verified.
- Your insurance will require your prescriber to provide medical documents for your medication coverage. This is called Prior Authorization (PA), which could take a few days to weeks. The fulfilling Pharmacy will work with your prescriber to complete the necessary documentation
- Your Pharmacy will explain any out-of-pocket costs and should help connect you to financial support if needed
When your medicine is ready, the Pharmacy will call you.
- The Pharmacy will CALL YOU to schedule shipment of your medicine to your home
- Be sure to watch for the call from the Pharmacy to confirm your shipping address. The call may come from a number you do not recognize
- Return any calls from your Pharmacy to prevent delays in getting your treatment
When it’s time for a refill, the Pharmacy will call you.
